The Western Ports Command of the Nigeria Police force have revealed that Boko Haram insurgents are planning to bomb Lagos.
The information was disseminated at the inauguration of new executives of the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) in Apapa, Lagos.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Western Ports Command, Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison revealed that the seaport in Apapa is most likely, the target of Boko Haram.
She disclosed that based on intelligence received three months ago by the force, the Islamic terrorist sect may be planning to bomb Lagos state.
Mrs. Ibifuro-Harisson, who was represented by the Assistant Commissioner in charge of administration, Salem Machree, stated:
“We are not taking the threat lightly at all and we encourage all stakeholders who visit the port to keep their eyes and ears open in case of the activity of the sect.”
She revealed that as part of measures put in place to check the threat, the Police had increased security within and around Lagos including the port environment.
It was also disclosed that the Police force would remain alert and vigilant to prevent the terrorist sect from attacking Lagos.
In June of this year, two explosions went off near the Folawiyo Energy Depot on Creek Road, Apapa.
