The local organising committee has announced plans to drum up thousands of fans for Super Eagles' game against Shakes Mashaba's men on Wednesday

Akwa Ibom state government has concluded plans to drum up at least 25,000 supporters for Nigeria in their crucial 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against South Africa in Uyo on Wednesday.

The African Champions need to win against the 2013 Afcon hosts to confirm their place in the 16-nation tournament at the 30,000 capacity Akwa Ibom International Stadium.

Akwa Ibom commissioner for sports, Sam Monday Ebong Uko said that the government have put in place a standard security measures to avoid any stampede, just as he insists there was no stampede which marred the grand opening of the ultra-modern 'Nest of Champions'.

On efforts to avert stampede, the Ebong said that security agencies have been mobilised to manage the hundreds of spectators which hopes to watch the game just as entry ticket price has been subsided and fully on sale.


"I want to let you know that tickets have been sent to the 31 local government areas in Akwa Ibom state. The chairmen of the areas have prepared to transport their people for the game, Ebong told Goal.

"We expect at least 25,000 people for the game, though we won't sell up to 30,000 tickets to avoid stampede.

"Who won’t be very happy and why won't we have crowd won’t want to see what the governor have built for the state with the number of people of over five million people.

"I can say that the last opening ceremony were very well organised and well managed and cannot see what happened. We expect journalists from inside and outside Akwa Ibom to give government kudos when they are doing what is good," the Commissioner noted.

"We are prepared for game. You can see our level of preparedness and testify to it. Every security arrangements are in place with the Is and Ts been crossed. In terms of entertainment, everything will be already sought out.

"In terms of ticketing, we are pushing out the ticket to the general public. And before, Tuesday evening, all will be concluded as per the ticket. I know that there are a lot of pressure over the tickets, but I promise the match tomorrow will be uncommonly eventful," he explained

"We have large security agencies in place - the security control group, state security service, policemen, road safety and others have keyed into event to ensure smooth hosting.

"We have designated areas for vehicles to park and only designated vehicles will be allowed into the stadium complex. People will be allowed to sit only on their right seat as the tickets will allocate you your seat.

"The price of the ticketing is highly subsided. The price is N500 for popular side, VIP is N1000 and VIP extension for N3000," he concluded.
