A certain man, a non student was apprehended by our security personnel for trying to bring prohibited items into the school. After much interrogation, he mentioned the names of the culprits involved. An official went to the male hostel to get the students mentioned, one of whom was praying in the hostel. The students involved along with other students faced with student disciplinary committee cases took advantage of the interruption of prayers to start the protest. The university properties worth millions were destroyed and this act was carried out by the male students. The students have been sent home on recess to resume back 2nd of June 2014. Nigerian schoolgirls' home town in despair after president cancels visit

Relatives of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls who have been missing for more than a month after being kidnapped by Islamic militants have voiced anger and despair after the country's president cancelled a visit to their home town, citing security concerns. As the international effort to find and rescue the girls gathered momentum, with military and intelligence resources from the US, UK, France, Israel and Canada pouring into Nigeria , and the #bringbackourgirls social media campaign exceeded 1m tweets, there was mounting criticism of President Jonathan Goodluck's slow response to the crisis. In Chibok on Friday, the home town of the missing girls, families said they had lost faith in the government to do everything possible to rescue their daughters, sisters and nieces. In Washington, a senior US official admonished Nigeria's failure to tackle the insurgency. Many relatives had gathered at the Chibok government girls secondary school, from which the teenagers were abducted in a night raid on 14 April, to greet Jonathan on his first visit to the area during the crisis. "You begin to question what could be more important to the president than the lives of these students," Dr Allen Manasseh, whose 18-year-old sister Maryamu Wavi was abducted from the school, told the Guardian. "The parents were hoping he would come with some information for them about where the girls may be and what efforts are being done to recover them, but instead to be told he is not coming was not easy for them. It's not an easy thing to have a missing child." He said the families were upset that it had taken more than a month for Jonathan to schedule a visit to Chibok, but that to have promised to come and then postponed without adequate explanation had further diminished their faith in the authorities. Bulus Mungo Park, a civil servant volunteering with a local vigilante force protecting Chibok from Boko Haram and the uncle of two missing girls, said the villagers were extremely disappointed. "The parents were happy that our president would come and see for himself. He was our last resort," he said. "And now we don't know what is happening. We're hoping he can still come some time." Following the release of a video by Boko Haram earlier this week, showing around 130 of the abducted teenagers, Mungo Park escorted a group of girls who had managed to escape and relatives of those still missing to the nearby town of Maiduguri to identify the captives. "They were able to identify about 75 by name," he said. The faces of other girls were known to their school colleagues. "Soon we will know all their names." Manasseh said his sister was not among the girls in the video released. "It makes me very worried for her because I do not know whether she is alive or where she might be." A leading Nigerian politician claimed Boko Haram blundered and handed the search mission a golden opportunity when it released a video of the captured girls because it contains significant clues to their whereabouts. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former defence minister who has spent years combating the militant group, said: "On TV they are exposing themselves to an intelligent military. Anyone who is familiar with this area can pinpoint the place. Terrorists who are clever put white cloths behind them but in this one you can see the location of the children in Sambisa forest." He added: "We have people very well trained. A layman will tell you that all of the clues are there. A tree that I saw there is special: it's not a tree you find in many places." Kwankwaso is now governor of the northern Kano province, the scene of one of Boko Haram's deadliest attacks, and tipped as a possible challenger to the president in next year's elections. He was scathing about Jonathan's response to the present crisis. "The issue is on CNN, Sky News," he said. "All the international stories are helping us to remind him that what is happening is very significant in Nigeria. "To him it was nothing. They wanted to sweep it under the carpet like nothing happened. But if everybody is talking about it, it is an issue. I have never seen in the history of the world where more than 200 people are kidnapped and it is not an issue." Kwankwaso challenged the president: "Yes, you inherited the problem, but what did you do when you came in? You have had five years on the throne. Five years is enough to make a difference. In 2015, by grace of God, he should get out of the [presidential] villa." Relatives and activists have raised fears that the girls could be intended as sex slaves for the militants, or trafficked to other countries. However, the Nigerian government has said it believes the girls are still within the country's borders, most likely hidden in the Sambisa forest. Mohammed Dunoma, the chairman of the local parent-teacher association, told the Guardian earlier this week that many villagers were now reluctant to allow their daughters to go to school. Boko Haram, whose name means "western education is sinful", was an ever-present threat, he said: "We don't know when they will come." The area is a stronghold of Boko Haram. Insurgents killed at least four soldiers in an ambush on Monday. In Washington, a senior US official criticised inaction by the Nigerian government. "In general, Nigeria has failed to mount an effective campaign against Boko Haram," Alice Friend, the Pentagon's principal director for African affairs, told the Senate foreign relations committee. "In the face of a new and more sophisticated threat than it has faced before, its security forces have been slow to adapt with new strategies, new doctrines and new tactics." She added: "We're now looking at a military force that's, quite frankly, becoming afraid to even engage." Dampening hopes of an imminent breakthrough in the internally backed search mission, state department spokesperson Marie Harf said military and intelligence teams faced "a tough challenge". The US has deployed manned and unmanned surveillance aircraft over the area. According to the New York Times , 30 specialists from the state department, FBI and Pentagon, with medical, intelligence, counter-terrorism and communications expertise, have been sent to Nigeria. Jay Carney, a White House spokesman, said there would be no active deployment of US forces in Nigeria. "At this point, we're not actively considering the deployment of US forces to participate in a combined rescue mission," he told reporters. Chuck Hagel, the US defence secretary, told CBS News it was an open question whether Nigerian forces were capable of rescuing the girls. "We just don't know enough yet to be able to assess what we will recommend to the Nigerians, where they need to go, what they need to do, to get those girls back," Hagel said. US general David Rodriguez met Nigerian officials in Abuja this week, as did British Foreign Office minister Mark Simmonds. Canada announced it had sent special forces to Nigeria, and Israel also joined the search and rescue mission. Jonathan was due to fly to Paris on Friday for a summit hosted by François Hollande, the French president, to discuss the security threat posed by Boko Haram. Nigeria's neighbours – Benin, Cameroon, Niger and Chad – were expected to attend, along with US, UK and EU representatives. A social media campaign over the kidnapped girls has won global backing, with more than 1m tweets under the hashtag #bringbackourgirls. INTRODUCING HALOGENOALKANES (haloalkanes or alkyl halides)

Halogenoalkanes are also known as haloalkanes or alkyl halides. This page explains what they are and discusses their physical properties. It also takes an initial look at their chemical reactivity. Details of the chemical reactions of halogenoalkanes are described on separate pages. What are halogenoalkanes? Examples Halogenoalkanes are compounds in which one or more hydrogen atoms in an alkane have been replaced by halogen atoms (fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine). For the purposes of UK A level, we will only look at compounds containing one halogen atom. The different kinds of halogenoalkanes Halogenoalkanes fall into different classes depending on how the halogen atom is positioned on the chain of carbon atoms. There are some chemical differences between the various types. Primary halogenoalkanes In a primary (1°) halogenoalkane, the carbon which carries the halogen atom is only attached to one other alkyl group. Note: An alkyl group is a group such as methyl, CH 3 , or ethyl, CH 3 CH2 . These are groups containing chains of carbon atoms which may be branched. Alkyl groups are given the general symbol R. Some examples of primary halogenoalkanes include: Notice that it doesn't matter how complicated the attached alkyl group is. In each case there is only one linkage to an alkyl group from the CH 2 group holding the halogen. There is an exception to this. CH 3 Br and the other methyl halides are often counted as primary halogenoalkanes even though there are no alkyl groups attached to the carbon with the halogen on it. Secondary halogenoalkanes In a secondary (2°) halogenoalkane, the carbon with the halogen attached is joined directly to two other alkyl groups, which may be the same or different. Examples: Tertiary halogenoalkanes In a tertiary (3°) halogenoalkane, the carbon atom holding the halogen is attached directly to three alkyl groups, which may be any combination of same or different. Examples: Physical properties of halogenoalkanes Boiling Points The chart shows the boiling points of some simple halogenoalkanes. Notice that three of these have boiling points below room temperature (taken as being about 20°C). These will be gases at room temperature. All the others you are likely to come across are liquids. Remember: the only methyl halide which is a liquid is iodomethane; chloroethane is a gas. The patterns in boiling point reflect the patterns in intermolecular attractions. Note: If you aren't happy about intermolecular forces (particularly van der Waals dispersion forces and dipole-dipole interactions) then you really ought to follow this link before you go on. Use the BACK button on your browser to return to this page. van der Waals dispersion forces These attractions get stronger as the molecules get longer and have more electrons. That increases the sizes of the temporary dipoles that are set up. This is why the boiling points increase as the number of carbon atoms in the chains increases. Look at the chart for a particular type of halide (a chloride, for example). Dispersion forces get stronger as you go from 1 to 2 to 3 carbons in the chain. It takes more energy to overcome them, and so the boiling points rise. The increase in boiling point as you go from a chloride to a bromide to an iodide (for a given number of carbon atoms) is also because of the increase in number of electrons leading to larger dispersion forces. There are lots more electrons in, for example, iodomethane than there are in chloromethane - count them! van der Waals dipole-dipole attractions The carbon-halogen bonds (apart from the carbon-iodine bond) are polar, because the electron pair is pulled closer to the halogen atom than the carbon. This is because (apart from iodine) the halogens are more electronegative than carbon. The electronegativity values are: C 2.5 F 4.0 Cl 3.0 Br 2.8 I 2.5 Note: If you don't understand about electronegativity and polar bonds then you should follow this link before you go on. This means that in addition to the dispersion forces there will be forces due to the attractions between the permanent dipoles (except in the iodide case). The size of those dipole-dipole attractions will fall as the bonds get less polar (as you go from chloride to bromide to iodide, for example). Nevertheless, the boiling points rise! This shows that the effect of the permanent dipole- dipole attractions is much less important than that of the temporary dipoles which cause the dispersion forces. The large increase in number of electrons by the time you get to the iodide completely outweighs the loss of any permanent dipoles in the molecules. Boiling points of some isomers The examples show that the boiling points fall as the isomers go from a primary to a secondary to a tertiary halogenoalkane. This is a simple result of the fall in the effectiveness of the dispersion forces. The temporary dipoles are greatest for the longest molecule. The attractions are also stronger if the molecules can lie closely together. The tertiary halogenoalkane is very short and fat, and won't have much close contact with its neighbours. Solubility of halogenoalkanes Solubility in water The halogenoalkanes are at best only very slightly soluble in water. In order for a halogenoalkane to dissolve in water you have to break attractions between the halogenoalkane molecules (van der Waals dispersion and dipole-dipole interactions) and break the hydrogen bonds between water molecules. Energy is released when new attractions are set up between the halogenoalkane and the water molecules. These will only be dispersion forces and dipole-dipole interactions. These aren't as strong as the original hydrogen bonds in the water, and so not as much energy is released as was used to separate the water molecules. The energetics of the change are sufficiently "unprofitable" that very little dissolves. Note: To be accurate, you also have to consider entropy changes when things dissolve. If you don't yet know about entropy, don't worry about it! Solubility in organic solvents Halogenoalkanes tend to dissolve in organic solvents because the new intermolecular attractions have much the same strength as the ones being broken in the separate halogenoalkane and solvent. Chemical reactivity of halogenoalkanes The importance of bond strengths The pattern in strengths of the four carbon- halogen bonds are: Notice that bond strength falls as you go from C-F to C-I, and notice how much stronger the carbon-fluorine bond is than the rest. Note: You will find almost as many different values for bond strengths (or bond enthalpies or bond energies) as there are different sources! Don't worry about this - the pattern is always the same. This is why you have got a chart here rather than actual numbers. In order for anything to react with the halogenoalkanes, the carbon-halogen bond has got to be broken. Because that gets easier as you go from fluoride to chloride to bromide to iodide, the compounds get more reactive in that order. Iodoalkanes are the most reactive and fluoroalkanes are the least. In fact, fluoroalkanes are so unreactive that we shall pretty well ignore them completely from now on in this section! The influence of bond polarity Of the four halogens, fluorine is the most electronegative and iodine the least. That means that the electron pair in the carbon- fluorine bond will be dragged most towards the halogen end. Looking at the methyl halides as simple examples: The electronegativities of carbon and iodine are equal and so there will be no separation of charge on the bond. Note: In the diagram, " " (read as "delta") means "slightly" - so + means "slightly positive". The larger the symbols, the more positive or negative the atoms are intended to be. If this isn't reasonably familiar to you, then you ought to have read the page about electronegativity and polar bonds mentioned above! One of the important set of reactions of halogenoalkanes involves replacing the halogen by something else - substitution reactions. These reactions involve either: the carbon-halogen bond breaking to give positive and negative ions. The ion with the positively charged carbon atom then reacts with something either fully or slightly negatively charged. something either fully or negatively charged attracted to the slightly positive carbon atom and pushing off the halogen atom. You might have thought that either of these would be more effective in the case of the carbon-fluorine bond with the quite large amounts of positive and negative charge already present. But that's not so - quite the opposite is true! The thing that governs the reactivity is the strength of the bonds which have to be broken. If is difficult to break a carbon-fluorine bond, but easy to break a carbon-iodine one.

How to defeat Bosses I have completed earth and legend and there are useful tips to defeating all the bosses. 1) WATER: keep running round the water with super sprint until the tentacles stop sprouting from underneath. Turn back, target one of the tentacles and attack with melee until the tentacles retract. Keep doing this until the creature is defeated. TIPS: level up to 15 for an easy battle. 2) EARTH: target the creature's head and attack with bow when you see an opening. If you dont, run round the arena until you reach the pillar that is not broken. The creature will hit his head and fall down, giving you an opening. Shoot as many arrows as you can untill it stands again. Run round the arena until it pursues you again. Move back to the pillar until it falls again. Attack and run round with super sprint until the creture is defeated. TIPS: level up to 25 for an easy battle and arrange the health portion to be in the same row with the bow. 3) WIND: avoid the reddish cyclone by running with super sprint, when you are a bit far away from it, target the creature with your bow and shoot until it limps. Continue attacking until it summons its shield and cyclone. Run until you see an opening, target and shoot until the creature is defeated. TIPS: do not come too close to the creature for it would butcher you in an instant. Also melee and magic attacks are useless. 4) FIRE: you will battle two creatures; lord gryon and a dragon. Firstly, in one positon use your shield to reflect all attacks which includes both the stumping and fireballs until gryon falls down. Target him and use melee attacks. Use your health portion to replenish your health. Continue blocking with your shield and attacking with melee until you reduce gryon's health to zero. A cut scene appears and the dragon appears. Target the dragon deflect the three fireballs with your shield, run round with super sprint and target it again when it is growling. Repeat until it has been defeated. Enjoy the cutscene that follows and celebrate your victory. TIPS: your victory against gryon depends on your stamina. Use it wisely. Health portion is an important item for this battle, therefore use it whenever there is an opportunity.

Rome is building up to the canonisation of not one but two Popes - the Polish Pope, John Paul ll, and John XXlll. But there is, though, one corner of Rome that always lies just a little beyond the world of Catholicism. In the winter of 1821, in the heart of Rome, in a house by the Spanish Steps, a young Englishman lay dying. He was the poet, John Keats. He had tuberculosis, and with death approaching he asked a friend to go and inspect the Protestant Cemetery, where he would be buried. His companion was able to report back that it would be a fine place for the poet's bones to lie, and all these years on, it remains a rather beautiful setting. As soon as you step through its gates, the clamour of the city traffic starts to fade. And as you walk further in, the air fills with sound of birds, and the scent of flowers. The sun slants through the tall trees and falls on the ranks of headstones. They rise up a slope towards a wall that's nearly 2,000 years old - a wall that was once part of the defences of ancient Rome. This place is now known as the Non-Catholic Cemetery . And when I visited early on a fine, spring morning it seemed to be sunk in a deep peace. I took the path that leads to a far corner, and to Keats's grave. On the grass around it there was a bright carpet of white daisies. But the words on the gravestone captured the gloom and sense of failure that engulfed the poet in his last days. He was only 25, and the world was yet to recognise his genius. He felt he'd made no mark. The epitaph he asked for on his headstone reads: "Here lies one whose name was writ in water." Keats's friend and fellow poet, Shelley, called the cemetery the most beautiful he'd ever seen. And soon he'd lie there too. Just a year after Keats's death, Shelley drowned off the coast of Italy. And his ashes are buried just beneath the Roman wall. Above the tomb a ruined watchtower rises towards the blue of the sky. Perhaps up on the broken ramparts the ghosts of legionnaires still stand guard. And in the earth all around Keats and Shelley, in the thousands of graves lie other poets, and painters, and writers and sculptors. Along with them are diplomats, soldiers, tourists, and many others. For centuries, Rome with all its history, its past glories and ancient faith has drawn all kinds of people from every corner of the world. Of course, not all of them were Catholic. And at one time, if they died here, that could be a little awkward. They couldn't be buried in consecrated Catholic ground. But nearly 300 years ago Pope Clement Xl decreed the establishment of the Protestant cemetery - lying just within the sacred city's walls. Some of the first to be buried there were English visitors struck down in Rome while on the "grand tour" of the sights of Europe. Others in the cemetery had come hoping Rome's Mediterranean climate might be good for their health - but then been fatally disappointed. Malaria and cholera sometimes lay in wait on the banks of the Tiber. And some met death in Rome in violent ways. Among those in the graveyard is an early victim of the city's traffic - a traveller who died as he tried to fling himself clear of an overturning, horse-drawn carriage. There were victims of hunting accidents. And an assassinated Iranian dissident also lies buried beneath the cypress trees. Some in the cemetery will have felt very far from home as they drew their last breath. But many will have chosen to die here. They'll have loved Rome, adopted it as theirs and lived long and happy lives in this place. Now all these people lie together. Americans and Swedes, Russians and Irish, Serbs and Japanese - Protestants, Orthodox Christians, Jews, Muslims and atheists. A great international community of the dead. Pope John XXIII - featured on a church door in his home town - is due to be canonised later this month And in this mix of peoples and traditions, you see a range of ways that they've tried to mark and make sense of death. Some do it very simply, with just a few lines on a headstone. One captures the feelings of a mourning relative with the words: "I shall remember while the light lasts. And in the darkness I shall not forget." But some have tried to express their emotions in much more elaborate ways. Standing on one headstone is a sculpture of an almost-naked angel - as tall as a man and with stone wings rising high above his head. The assailant, who some claimed was a ritual killer, inflicted machete cuts on the 15-year-old girl’s head, legs and wrist. The young girl is living with her grandmother in Ede, Osun State, while her mother is in Lagos State. She was said to have gone inside a bush in the town to pick some mangoes last Wednesday when the wicked man accosted her and wanted to rape her. The victim said that she was going home with the mangoes when the man appeared and asked her for some mangoes. She said that she gave him some and he later demanded séx, which she said she turned down. Immediately, the man pounced on her, grabbed her head and forced a pill into her mouth and after this, she became unconscious... Asked if the man rapéd her, she said that she did not know what happened when she was unconscious. She told Punch that: “The man later said he wanted to have séx with me, but I told him I was too young for that. The man threatened to cut off my head if I didn’t oblige him. He held my head, forced my mouth open and dropped a white pill inside my mouth. I fell down and I became unconscious. "I was attacked around 2pm and I woke up when it was getting dark maybe around 7pm. I managed to crawl to the footpath and shouted for help, but none came until the following morning.” Some farmers, who found the girl inside the bush the following day, rushed her to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Osogbo for treatment. She was said to have been brought to the hospital with maggots oozing out of the wounds all over her body. The maggots infested wounds made some people to believe that the girl was attacked more than 48 hours before she was brought to the hospital. One of the medical personnel at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital confirmed that the girl was brought to the hospital with maggots all over the wounds. The hospital worker said, “We will examine her to know if she was raped or not. But I beleive the police should look for the attacker, get him arrested and charge him to court .” The mother of the victim, Abebi , told Punch that the girl’s father had died and her grandmother said she should not take her back to Lagos, that was why she left her with her grandmother.</div>
